We are excited to introduce you to the truck driver training industry’s most effective and affordable way to teach students and refresh professional drivers on how to perform within a truck yard!
In the trucking industry around the world the terms shunting, spotting and switching are synonymous. Whether you are switching within the yard or shunting yard to yard, it is clear that not all yards are configured exactly the same.
Think of it like an obstacle course for new drivers or building muscle memory in experienced drivers. It’s safe to say that this is probably the biggest challenge for new drivers because of all the skills necessary to navigate sometimes narrow lanes of expensive equipment!
Poor yard management can be costly for a business. Drivers need to learn to be efficient, safe and comfortable within their yard(s).
Best Practices
With the iMVR IRIS yard to yard module you have the ability to choose options to reflect your companies procedures and protocols. For truck driver training schools and professional trucking companies, you can stage challenging scenarios that are perfect for teaching the most difficult maneuvers in a safe environment. Executing & coaching best practices has never been easier!
Expect the Unexpected – Active A-I, in the Yard and on the Road
Understanding and being aware of the traffic in front, behind and beside you. Learn to keep your eyes constantly moving, scanning the road ahead and to the side and checking your mirrors to see what is coming from behind you. The farther ahead you look, the less likely you will be surprised. This allows time to avoid any hazards. Managing the space around your vehicle makes for a safer and more comfortable driver. It lets you see and be seen and gives you time and space to avoid a collision.
With the IRIS Shunting Yard-to-Yard module, you can incorporate the unexpected into your professional and student truck driver training. Someone standing at a crosswalk, a vehicle looking to merge in front of you, a construction zone ahead and much more. If you think it – we can add it!
Prepare your drivers for anything. Build confidence that they can tackle the unknown.
But what about the known? There are many different processes that are considered standard or policy for different companies. Some are actually mandated by law. In certain vehicles there are clear processes that drivers need to follow in situations. Active railroad crossings are a perfect example. When a driver approaches this situation, the process will be the same each time. With the IRIS Shunting Yard-to-Yard module, The instructor can review with the student truck driver (or professional truck driver) how they performed by looking at the recorded session. This effective training tool can be used in all situations a driver might face while shunting yard-to-yard.
Multi Lingual GPS
At iMVR we recognize the diversity of the trucking industry. The Shunting yard-to-yard module uses soft skills to help ease new drivers into learning by incorporating native language skills into the training. You can select the GPS using a wide variety of languages. Drivers can hear the GPS directions in their native tongue and then in English.
Review, Review, Review
Students, professional driver, and instructors alike can go back and review all sessions. This is an amazing opportunity for the instructor to reinforce areas that need improving. On their own a student can then go back and review over and over again so that when they get back in the module, they can show marked improvement.
Eye Tracking Technology
See where your professional driver is truly looking. Not where the head is turned to, BUT the placement of the eye. For example, where in the mirror and/or how often are they being looked at. This is a very effective tool to building and continuing confidence in our professional drivers.
The ability to review and reinforce mirror checks for instructors is so critical. It’s this kind of training that stays with you for years! Instructors can see how aware drivers are of their current surroundings. Are they checking mirrors, looking ahead and catching those “Active A-I” situations? Are they following the proper procedures for “Active Railroad Crossings”?
Real Instructors and Real Students!
It is a great tool to introduce driving before taking students on the road. Being able to look out the window in the IRIS VR, we can see the real-world impact, something that in a large simulator can’t be done. Students learn a lot of processes and techniques before hitting the road.
Being able to have things that are in the real world, like construction and people walking across the roads was good to help be ready to get into a real truck. It helped me get ready.
People & Technology You Can Trust!
iMVR was started by people who came from compliance within the trucking industry. We know trucking and have collaborated with some of the industry’s best recognized truck driver training schools to create the most comprehensive virtual reality training platform for the trucking industry.
The IRIS platform creates a safe environment to develop memory retention and learn new professional truck driver skills. iMVR customers consistently see increased driver retention rates with use of the IRIS platform and suite of training modules.
