Probably the single most important aspect of training using Virtual Reality Technology is that you are completely immersed in an environment created specifically to teach you a particular skill! Let me say that again, it is created for you.
Sometimes it’s hard for someone to completely grasp what we mean by immersive. With virtual reality, you are wearing a lightweight headset that completely encompasses your whole field of vision. You only see and hear what you are being shown, no distractions.
Most of us know what it’s like to sit in a movie theater and watch an impressive movie on the big screen. IRIS by iMVR puts you into the screen. Best seat in the house by far! Because of this we can take you out of the truck to do things like coupling and uncoupling. You can’t get this immersive experience from watching a video, reading a book or even sitting in a simulator. It’s why virtual reality training has such high retention rates. People will retain 90% of what they do versus 30% of what they see and only 10% of what they write.
Ok, let’s get back to that created for you part. This is what makes IRIS by iMVR so important. Let’s take coupling as an example. Different governing bodies have their own guidelines on what steps they would like you to follow when coupling or uncoupling. Individual companies may include their “Best practice” steps so professional drivers will learn to follow their corporate process. With IRIS, the process is whatever you decide to include. The process isn’t the only thing that might need attention. Many pieces of equipment are different which may require extra attention in specific in terms of how to operate.
Here’s a little teaser video to show you our coupling module.
I’m interested in learning more.
