We are excited to introduce you to the truck driver training industry’s most effective and affordable way to teach students and refresh professional drivers on how to back up their tractor trailer!
Backing up isn’t just about backing into a loading dock. Any time you put that truck in reverse you are engaging one of the most difficult truck driving skills in your skill set. For companies their yard and public spaces like truck stops can be nightmares because the instances of bumping another truck or piece of equipment is not an insurable event.
Picture This…
A driver coming into a truck stop after a long haul. You’ve got 200 spaces for trucks to overnight with only two available spots left. The act of backing up between two trucks is pressure filled and causes more accidents than you might imagine.
With the iMVR IRIS backing module you have the ability to practice how to back up between two trucks, practice your off-set back up procedure, practice your blind side back ups or even create you own checklist to follow while backing up. This gives you the opportunity to emphasize the elements that are important to your company. You have the ability to create your own scoring to reflect what’s important to your own internal incident rates and near misses.
Executing & coaching best practices has never been easier!
How do we do this?
With our Virtual Reality platform both student and professional drivers can practice, practice, practice in a cost effective way. In our VR platform we record important measurements to help the drivers learn at a higher level including:
- Distance from the dock
- Speed when landing at the dock
- Backing speed
- How many times did the driver reposition back and forth in successfully landing at the dock
- What is the measurable angle are they at with the trucks beside them
- And much more
You can even place obstacles such as pylons, ringing phones or other distractions to give both drivers and instructors alike another point of reference during the session.
Most students who have learned through the IRIS platform have told us that the mirror placement and adjustments in the back up module was one of the most influential components in helping them learn how to back up properly. There are thousand dollar a day courses in the industry just to teach that! Just think of how much further ahead your truck driving students and professional truck drivers will be than their competition.
A Birds Eye View!
The “Birds Eye View” in the backing module gives instructors and students alike the ability to change the view from the drivers view inside the truck to a view looking at the session from outside the truck. This feature is truly unique in the industry. Let’s say you are reviewing a session with a student truck driver. You are looking at what the student was looking at while they were in session. You stop and toggle to the birds eye view. You can now look at the session from any angle around the truck. You can rotate in 3D completely around, above, underneath the truck pointing outing any issue you may have found with that student at that point in their session. It is an amazing learning opportunity.
Review, Review, Review
Students, professional drivers, and instructors alike can go back and review all sessions. This is an amazing opportunity for the instructor to reinforce areas that need improving. On their own a student can then go back and review over and over again so that when they get back in the module, they can show marked improvement.
HR organizations can keep historical sessions on file for their professional drivers. Sessions can be accessible even without the IRIS VR hardware platform. Your just need the IRIS software!
Coaching in VR simply works. With iMVR learning has never been easier!
Eye Tracking Technology
See where your professional truck driver or student truck driver is truly looking. Not where the head is turned to, BUT the placement of the eye. For example, where in the mirror and/or how often are they being looked at. This is a very effective tool to building and continuing confidence in our professional drivers.
When using the IRIS backup module, it is critical to see where the student is looking. How are they using their mirrors? What are they checking? Speed? This all helps an instructor learn how the student thinks.
Real Instructors and Real Students!
I was amazed at how realistic it was and how many ways we were able to teach students to back up properly. The mirror management along with the eye tracking made it easier to point out issues that students had to fix.
I was terrified of backing up a truck. I found that using the IRIS backup module grew my confidence because I was able to practice over and over without worrying about hitting anything! It helped me get ready for the real world.
People & Technology You Can Trust!
iMVR was started by people who came from compliance within the trucking industry. We know trucking and have collaborated with some of the industry’s best recognized truck driver training schools to create the most comprehensive virtual reality training platform for the trucking industry.
The IRIS platform creates a safe environment to develop memory retention and learn new professional truck driver skills. iMVR customers consistently see increased driver retention rates with use of the IRIS platform and suite of training modules.
